At ZAMBI Wildlife Retreat, we are delighted to introduce you to our extraordinary bird residents, including a rare Hyacinth Macaw and his colourful macaw flock.

Come and experience the beauty and charm of the incredible bird species in their naturalistic enclosures, and learn more about their unique characteristics, conservation and personal stories.

The Hyacinth macaw is the largest flying parrot in the world. They can live up to 60 years of age. Native to South America, their numbers are in decline due to the illegal pet trade (being highly prized pets) and habitat loss.

Macaw parrots have highly effective beaks that can crack nuts and seeds, and their tongues have bones inside them, making them efficient instruments for tapping into fruits.
