RED PANDA
ZAMBI has welcomed Phinju, a Red Panda, to stay with us for an extended holiday.
Phinju is part of the Global Species Management Program and will eventually play an important role in the conservation of this incredibly beautiful endangered species.
Red Pandas live in the cool, higher regions of countries such as Nepal, India and China.
Zambi’s exhibit has been built under a high canopy of trees, which is situated in the coolest section of the retreat. Phinju also has his own 4.5 metre high air-conditioned off display house that has been furnished specifically to suit the species activities.
A Red Panda's diet consists of 80% fresh bamboo daily, and how lucky is this boy that we grow many species of bamboo that pandas love to munch on right here at Zambi.
Being more active during the twilight hours, Phinju will be seen sleeping high up in a tree during the day. Red Pandas spend up to 17 hours a day napping.
