LEOPARD
ZAMBI is home to an endangered male Sri Lankan leopard called Phoenix.
Phoenix was born at the Darling Downs Zoo as part of a global conservation initiative to help secure the dwindling numbers of leopard subspecies.
This stunning big cat was entrusted into our care at ZAMBI with permission from European Species Management.
Leopards are known for their strength and agility and Phoenix lives in a tropically designed enclosure with many plants, a waterfall, high platforms and logs.
Poaching is one of their biggest threats, as their beautiful spotted coats are in high demand. Also due to population increase their habitat has become fragmented and in some areas destroyed. Action must be taken for their conservation.
